Last day as a working mommy...

So after 10 years, I traded in my heels for flip flops, my dress pants for sweats, and blouse for a t-shirt.  It was such a bittersweet day saying good-bye to co-workers who truly were like family to me.  I thought I'd be sneaky and slide out a little early to avoid all kinds of emotional goodbyes but that didn't quite work out as planned.  My co-workers surprised me with cake, a card, and a sweet goodbye.  I'm so grateful for having them in my life.  They've seen me through so many ups and downs, a wedding, & 3 babies.  I think reality hit when I stepped onto the elevator and those doors closed for the last time.  I was also a little ticked at myself for not stocking up on some free Coke Zero before leaving :) I'm really going to miss that place.

So my new adventure begins as a stay at home mommy.  I picked the kids up from the babysitter and headed home.  With Kierstin on my hip, leftover cake in one hand, my purse on my arm, and a vase full of beautiful flowers in my other hand,  I put the cake down, unlocked and opened the front door, turned around to pick up the cake, turned back around to walk in the house only to have the door slammed in my face.  So not having a free hand, I kicked the door and yelled for Ali to open it for me.  At the same time, I felt the flowers as if they were being tugged on.  Kierstin had just taken a big bite of a lily that had not bloomed yet.  Yep, this is how I was welcomed into the world of stay at home mommies.  Thankfully she didn't like the taste and was helpful as I dug it out of her mouth.

I'm so excited to stay home and raise my babies the way I want them to be raised.  I'm thrilled that I'll have the time to sit down on the floor with them and play a game, do a puzzle, or read a book.  I no longer have to cram a weeks worth of household chores into my weekend.  I can take the time to enjoy my husband when he's home and put the chores aside. <Sigh>  My heart is finally at peace because I know this is where God wants me...finally.
